New Hampshire Approves 2.9% Workers’ Compensation Rate Cut for 2027
The New Hampshire Insurance Department (NHID) has approved an average of 2.9% reduction in workers’ compensation rates for 2027, marking the 15th consecutive year of declining voluntary workers’ compensation loss costs.
Assigned risk rates will also decrease by 3.4% on average.
The newly approved loss costs and assigned risk rates will apply to policies effective on or after January 1, 2027.
The news came with the approval of a filing by National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI).
Voluntary market loss costs in the state have declined by approximately 68% during the 15-year period. The state approved an average 6.1% reduction in voluntary loss costs and a 5.4% reduction for the assigned risk pool effective January 1, 2026.
Loss costs represent the portion of rates associated with the expected cost of claims for work-related injuries. Insurers incorporate the approved loss costs into their rates along with company-specific expenses and other factors. As a result, the actual premium for an individual employer may vary based on the insurer, employer characteristics, claims experience, classification, and other rating factors.
The NCCI is a licensed advisory organization and statistical agent that collects workers’ compensation data and prepares loss-cost and rate filings for New Hampshire and many other states.
