2 Louisiana Businesses Earn Workers’ Comp Safety Awards

January 22, 2018

The Louisiana Workforce Commission’s (LWC) Office of Workers’ Compensation Administration (OWCA) OSHA/Safety Consultation Section named R&R Home Care Inc. of Mandeville, La., and Haven Nursing Center Inc. of Columbia, La., as recipients of its 2017 LAWorks Award.

The LAWorks Award recognizes and supports businesses of any size that implement and operate an exemplary safety and health management system. It is administered by consultants with the LWC OSHA/Safety Consultation Section. The on-site consultation program is a free and confidential service.

Businesses that participate in LAWorks will find the award to be an effective way to improve the safety of their work environments. Reducing rates of workplace illness and injury can positively impact the bottom line in a variety of ways, including reduced workers’ compensation premiums.

To participate in LAWorks, an employer must first request a consultation visit by a safety and health consultant of the OSHA/Safety Consultation Section.

“Each business must involve its employees in the consultation process, correct any hazards, implement and maintain a safety and health management system that addresses OSHA guidelines, lower and maintain a lost workday injury and illness rate below the national average and agree to notify the OSHA/Safety Consultation Section before making any changes in working conditions or introducing new processes into their workplace. These businesses are setting the standard for innovation and creativity in safety and health. It is an incredible achievement to be selected for this award,” Corey S. Gaines, the LWC’s OSHA/Safety Consultation manager, said in the agency’s announcement.

Only one LAWorks Award letter of recognition is provided per company per worksite per year. The LAWorks Award can be renewed after a one-year period, provided the same conditions are met during a subsequent renewal review.
