AIG Sues Ex-U.Va. Lax Player Over Claim
A former University of Virginia lacrosse player convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend was sued by American International Group over his refusal to answer questions from insurance investigators.
In a May 20 court filing, the company says George Huguely V declined requests for questioning under oath. AIG wants to be released from defending him or paying damages in a wrongful-death suit brought by the family of the slain Yeardley Love. Huguely was convicted of second-degree murder in the 2010 beating death. He is serving a 23-year sentence. The state’s Court of Appeals has agreed to hear his appeal. AIG says Huguely’s refusal to cooperate constitutes a breach of contract under his family’s homeowners policy.
