Louisiana Employment, Wages Increased in 2011
Employment in Louisiana increased by a modest 0.8 percent in 2011 compared with 2010, but wages grew by 3 percent during the same period, according to data released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission.
The data covers employment and total wages by North American Industry Classification System sectors and sub-sectors for the state and by NAICS sectors for all parishes. Covered employers are those who pay unemployment insurance taxes and who count filled jobs — full-time or part-time, temporary or permanent — by place of work.
Louisiana’s average covered employment in 2011 totaled 1,848,435, an increase of 0.8 percent compared to 1,834,338 in 2010. Average employment increased in 33 of the 64 parishes in 2011.
The report shows that:
- Total wages for 2011 increased 3 percent from 2010.
- The 2011 average weekly wage for all industries was $815.
- Average reporting units decreased by 3,375 to 125,475 in 2011.
