80% of Claims from May Tornado in Minneapolis Resolved
The Minnesota Department of Commerce reported that insurance companies have resolved about 80 percent of the claims generated after a tornado swept through north Minneapolis in May.
The agency said that policyholders filed 4,530 claims following the May 22 storm. Fewer than 920 claims were outstanding as of Oct. 1.
The department collected data from more than 40 insurance companies. The numbers help the department monitor the progress that insurance companies are making on processing claims.
The claims that have already been paid out total $64 million. Another $8.7 million in claims has yet to be processed.
Storm victims who have questions or are having trouble processing their claims are encouraged to contact the Minnesota Department of Commerce’s Consumer Response Team for assistance.
