S.C. Governor Wants Workers’ Comp Data
A federal judge has ordered lawyers seeking to prevent the release of information to South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford on workers compensation awards and attorney fees to explain their stance.
The State of Columbia newspaper reported Sanford wants the information from the state Workers Compensation Commission. The data is available through a request under open records law, but Sanford used an executive order.
Charleston attorney David Pearlman told the newspaper that the reason lawyers for injured workers do not want the information released will come out in court.
Sanford has had a long standing feud with the Workers Compensation Commission going back to arguments two years ago about new medical standards for evaluating injured workers’ claims.
