N.Y. weighs damages for fake ID sellers
New York elected officials say they want to hold sellers of fake identification cards liable for damages caused by their underage customers if alcohol was involved.
State Sen. Jeff Klein is among those calling for new legislation to hold fake ID peddlers accountable.
He says underage drinkers are able to get fake IDs too easily.
An investigation by his office showed that minors could go into stores around the city and get IDs with little or no verification from the sellers.
The current law holds sellers liable for damages if a buyer was at fault while consuming alcohol.
