In Memoriam: Robert Hoye dies
Robert M. Hoye, formerly of Arrowhead General Insurance Agency, died peacefully of natural causes on Dec. 15.
Hoye was born in Harvey, N.D. He served in World War II and was honorably discharged following his tour of duty. He received his Bachelor’s in criminology from Eastern New Mexico University and pursued graduate studies in psychology at the University of Wisconsin.
He entered the property-liability insurance business as a claim adjuster for The Hartford in the 1950s in Minneapolis. Subsequently, he managed Dairyland Insurance Co.’s first branch office in Bismarck, N.D., and spent the next 17 years with Dairyland/Sentry in various managerial roles.
In 1971, Bob founded Independent Indemnity Co. and served as its president until 1983. Following that, he, his son, Richard, and Virginia Schacher established Arrowhead General Insurance Agency in a joint venture with the Classified Insurance Co. A collector of Native American artifacts, Bob settled on the name “Arrowhead” for the agency.
Following his retirement from full-time work, he served as a consultant for the Progressive Insurance Co., and until recently, remained active with the American Agent’s Alliance.
