Did You See What So and So Said’
Computers never cease to amaze me.
The available options on various Web sites can be both great and at times mind-boggling. Here at Insurance Journal, we’ve tried to make things as simple as possible, especially when it comes to getting you, the reader, involved.
Recently, Web Manager Josh Carlson added a new feature to our daily Web news, allowing readers to make comments on posted stories they see on our Web site, www.insurancejournal.com.
Because of his many computer talents and the fact that he also hails from my native state of Pennsylvania, I thought it was time he got a little credit for this. This simple addition to the Web site has led us to develop a new page once a month in the magazine, where we highlight some of the better reader comments taken from the Web site.
Covering our Southeast regional news, I have kept an eye out for what readers think about stories in my nine-state coverage area. While legislation, company mergers and the like do draw attention, leave it to the pinheads that commit fraud to steal all the thunder.
We recently posted a news item involving a Florida claims adjuster who seemed to like cashing in on her job, literally.
She reportedly stole more than $100,000 from the Florida Insurance Guaranty Association after stealing more than $310,000 from another insurance company she worked for.
Someone at FIGA either did a really bad job when it came to the interview or this woman thought she was the Houdini of the insurance world. Either way, readers were quick to respond to this article.
In our West region, responses to the California workers’ compensation issue never fail to provide plenty of comments. Be it nursing homes in Florida or the above-mentioned Golden State problem, readers can now post responses on our Web site and have them viewed by thousands of others on a weekly basis.
Take a minute and post a response to a story if you like. You may just find yourself in our magazine telling the insurance world just what you think about a given subject. At worst, you can tell the folks you got your 15 minutes of fame in IJ.
As for this current issue, you will find an interview with Kentucky’s Office of Insurance Acting Executive Director Glenn Jennings, along with an update on a recent North Carolina Supreme Court ruling related to punitive damages, among other stories.
We hope you like your Insurance Journal Southeast, and we’ll talk to you soon.
