Coordinating Oversight

“Entering this agreement with the FTC is important to making sure markets for consumer financial products are getting efficient and effective federal government oversight.”

—Richard Cordray, the recently appointed director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and former Ohio attorney general, announced the CFPB and the Federal Trade Commission have agreed to coordinate rulemaking and enforcement in order to avoid duplication.

The Public’s Money

“It’s the public’s money and the public has a right to know all the facts about how their money is managed and whether what the public pays in premiums is adequate to handle future claims.”

—George Sinas attorney for Michigan’s Coalition Protecting Auto No-Fault, which filed a lawsuit seeking claims information from the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association after a county court said the MCCA is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act. The MCCA handles medical bills for seriously injured auto accident victims in Michigan. The coalition says information related to the cost of claims and the age of claimants is needed for lawmakers to make informed decisions about proposed changes to state law.

Veteran Crisis Management

“Every member of the staff in WorldAware is basically a veteran and five of the staff are alumni from the Wounded Warrior Project. It’s probably one of the most incredible groups of people we have in our entire organization.”

—David Dahler, director of human resources for Aon Corp., speaking about a unique crisis management team at Aon in Chicago that is staffed entirely by veterans, several of them wounded warriors. These insurance warriors include Michael Kiewski, Chad Watson and Yesenia Ortiz. They, and all the members of the crisis center operation, are U.S. military veterans with expertise in intelligence and tactical planning and real experience working under pressure.
