Arthur J. Gallagher, Robinson-Adams
Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. has acquired insurance brokerage operations of Robinson-Adams Insurance Inc. in Birmingham, Alabama. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition does not involve the affiliated companies, including automotive-related businesses, AutoTec, LLC, Red Mountain Technologies, LLC and Centennial Casualty Co., which will continue to run independently.
Robinson-Adams Insurance, Inc. is a retail insurance broker. It specializes in insurance for long-term health care facilities and the wholesale automobile auction industry.
Martha Acker, William Dodson Jr. and their associates will continue to operate from their Birmingham location as Robinson-Adams Insurance under the direction of Mitchel Brashier, Southeastern regional manager of Gallagher’s retail property/casualty brokerage operation.
Universal Insurance, Georgia Homeowners
Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Co. has received the approval of the Georgia Department of Insurance to begin marketing homeowners insurance in the state. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based company is one of the three largest writers of homeowners insurance in Florida and also operates in Hawaii, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Acentria, Concord Commercial
Destin, Florida-based insurance agency Acentria has acquired Concord Commercial Insurance Agency in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Bob and Tyler Wilson along with their employees are joining Acentria and continue to offer transportation insurance. The office will remain in Punta Gorda.
Acentria now has nine locations in Florida.
Vertafore, Kaplan Compliance
Insurance agency technology vendor Vertafore said that its subsidiary Sircon will acquire Indianapolis, Indiana-based Kaplan Compliance Solutions (KCS), which sells insurance and securities software and services. Terms were not disclosed.
KCS, an operating unit of Kaplan University’s School of Professional and Continuing Education (KU PACE), offers services for producer contracting, securities registration, insurance licensing and appointing, education tracking, renewal and data management. Kaplan, Inc. is a subsidiary of The Washington Post Co. and its largest division.
As part of the acquisition, KU PACE and Vertafore have also entered into a joint marketing agreement. KU PACE will be a preferred education services provider for KCS/Sircon customers.
The acquisition is expected to close late third or early fourth quarter 2011, subject to customary closing conditions.
